PLAYER OF THE WEEK | San Francisco Midfielder Bryan Burke

San Francisco Deltas midfielder Bryan Burke has been named North American Soccer League (NASL) Player of the Week after scoring twice in his club’s 3-0 victory over Puerto Rico FC at Kezar Stadium on Saturday night.

Burke, usually deployed as a defender, was heavily involved in San Francisco’s attack over the weekend. In fact, it only took the Newport Beach native seven minutes to get on the scoresheet. He met Dagoberto’s corner kick, heading it off the underside of the crossbar and over the goal line to put the Deltas up, 1-0.

Just before halftime, Burke found the back of the net once again, running onto a quality long ball from teammate Michael Stephens and firing a blistering shot past Puerto Rico goalkeeper Austin Pack.  

The 3-0 result kept the Deltas, who have already locked up a spot in the postseason, atop the Fall Season Standings with just a few weeks remaining. Even if San Francisco doesn’t capture the Fall Season title, the first-year club has a good chance at claiming the No. 2 seed – and semifinal hosting rights – in The Championship, the league’s four-team postseason tournament, by virtue of the Combined Standings.

Burke, 28, joined the Deltas prior to the 2017 season. In recent weeks, he has featured much more prominently in the club’s attack. The former Jacksonville Armada FC defender has tallied at least a goal or an assist in three of his last five games.

The Deltas square off with Spring Season Champion Miami FC on Wednesday in San Francisco before traveling to the East Coast to face North Carolina FC on Saturday.
