Packed Saturday Night Slate Highlighted By Pair Of beIN SPORTS Games

 

The NASL Fall Season gets back underway on Saturday night with Week 2 action taking place in Puerto Rico, Indianapolis, Miami, and San Francisco.

 

Saturday's action will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET when Puerto Rico FC and Jacksonville Armada FC square off on the island. Both clubs earned 1-1 draws to open up the Fall Season. Kicking off at the same time is Indy Eleven, which will aim to extend its unbeaten streak against visiting FC Edmonton, and Spring Season Champion Miami FC, which will try to shake off its midweek U.S. Open Cup loss against North Carolina FC at Riccardo Silva Stadium.  

 

Capping off the Week 2 action is a matchup at 8 p.m. ET between the San Francisco Deltas and the New York Cosmos at Kezar Stadium in historic Golden Gate Park.

Puerto Rico FC heads into Saturday's contest after picking up a point on the road against North Carolina FC. Jordi Quintillà added his name on the scoresheet in the 1-1 draw. Puerto Rico played Jacksonville Armada FC twice at the end of the Spring Season and earned draws in both of those contests. The previous meeting on the Caribbean island ended in a scoreless stalemate.

 

Jacksonville began the Fall Season with a 1-1 draw of its own. Goalkeeper Caleb Patterson-Sewell provided a strong performance in goal and Jack Blake scored from the penalty spot to pick up the point. Young forward Derek Gebhard has been in strong form, earning the penalty kick last weekend. The club also boosted its firepower recently with Tony Taylor, Ciaran Kilduff, and Brian Shriver joining the ranks.

Indy Eleven welcomes FC Edmonton to The Mike as the most in-form team in the NASL. The Boys in Blue have won five of their last six games, including last weekend's 2-1 win over the Eddies. David Goldsmith scored his first goal in the victory and Eamon Zayed tallied the eventual game-winner. Veteran goalkeeper Jon Busch has been superb over the last month, leading the NASL in saves with 24 during that time period.

 

The Eddies are hoping to get some revenge quickly after falling to Indy last weekend. Tomi Ameobi scored on his 100^th overall appearance for the club, but it wasn't enough for FC Edmonton to get a result. The Eddies played to a 0-0 draw in their last visit to Indianapolis.

The Spring Season Champions have had a slow start to the second half of the year. After a 3-1 loss to the New York Cosmos, Miami was on the wrong end of a 1-0 result in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals against FC Cincinnati. The club will have a chance to avenge one of its two losses in the Spring Season when North Carolina FC visits Riccardo Silva Stadium on Saturday.

 

North Carolina FC salvaged a point in its last contest, with Matt Fondy converting a late penalty kick in a 1-1 draw with Puerto Rico FC. The club will carry confidence into its latest matchup with Miami, having posted an unbeaten record against the Spring title winners so far. North Carolina and Miami played to a pair of 1-1 draws in the Spring Season before North Carolina won the last meeting, 1-0, with a goal from Billy Schuler. The club heads into the matchup with a new-look attack after adding Jonathan Glenn and Danny Barrow in a trade with Jacksonville, as well as Brazilian forward Renan Gorne on loan from Botafogo.

The San Francisco Deltas had a strong Spring campaign, finishing in second place, and picked up a solid point on the road to start the Fall Season. Danny Cruz scored his first goal for the club, leveling the score in Jacksonville for the 1-1 draw. The Deltas lost their first meeting against the New York Cosmos at Kezar Stadium by a 1-0 score line.

 

The Cosmos goalscorer from that meeting in April, Emmanuel Ledesma, will be unavailable after picking up a red card last weekend. In recent weeks, however, youngster Eric Calvillo has been the in-form man. The U.S. youth international has scored three goals in his last two league games, including a brace against Miami FC a weekend ago. New York has won its last two games ahead of the matchup with San Francisco.
