TEAM OF THE MONTH | May

Jacksonville's Zach Steinberger, Miami's Vincenzo Rennella, and San Francisco's Cristian Portilla headlined the Team of the Month for May

Jacksonville Armada FC midfielder Zach Steinberger and Miami FC forward Vincenco Rennella were in sizzling form in the May, leading their sides to a strong month with their goals. San Francisco Deltas midfielder Cristian Portilla also performed very well during that stretch.

See below for the top players in May: 

GK: Brian Sylvestre (North Carolina FC) – The former U.S. youth international made the most saves by a ‘keeper in the month of May, totaling 19 saves. Sylvestre’s save percentage as 76 percent and he currently leads the NASL in saves with 45.

DEF: Drew Beckie (Jacksonville Armada FC) – He picked up two assists during the month, with both coming on goals for Zach Steinberger in Jacksonville wins. Beckie also made nine clearances and 10 interceptions and won 21 duels, which tied him for second with most by a defender in the month.

DEF: Colin Falvey (Indy Eleven) – The Indy captain led all defenders in tackles won (13), duels won (29), and was second in clearances (13). He also made 11 clearances.

DEF: Rhett Bernstein (Miami FC) – The Miami center back made more clearances (17) and more blocks (5) than any other defender. He was also tied for second in duels won by a defender (21) during the month, making 17 clearances as well.  

MID: Zach Steinberger (Jacksonville Armada FC) – He scored five times in the month, including back-to-back games with two goals, scoring a goal for every 72 minutes of play. He also added an assist and created nine chances. Steinberger was also named Player of the Month.

MID: Cristian Portilla (San Francisco Deltas) – The veteran midfielder scored a game-winning goal on the road for the Deltas and also had two assists during May. Portilla also was tied for first with most chances created (11).

MID: Lance Laing (North Carolina FC) – The Jamaican international scored a pair of goals for North Carolina and tallied an assist.

MID: Emmanuel Ledesma (New York Cosmos) – The veteran midfielder was tied for the most chances created (11) and picked up two assists. He also won 22 duels.

FWD: Vincenzo Rennella (Miami FC) – He scored a goal in four straight league games and added an assist during the month. He also created eight chances.

FWD: Billy Schuler (North Carolina FC) – The forward was impactful off the bench, scoring twice, including one game-winning goal. He also had an assist during May.

FWD: Emery Welshman (Puerto Rico FC) – The Guyana international scored a pair of goals and added an assist for the club during the month.
