San Francisco Deltas midfielder Kyle Bekker has been named North American Soccer League (NASL) Player of the Week after scoring the club’s first goal in its inaugural game against Indy Eleven on Saturday night.

The 26-year-old midfielder sent the crowd at San Francisco’s historic Kezar Stadium into a frenzy after firing home a cross from teammate Danny Cruz in the 31st minute of the Deltas’ 1-1 draw with 2016 runner-up Indy. The first-half strike put San Francisco ahead in its first ever NASL game, but a goal early in the second half from Indy’s Tanner Thompson forced a split of the points.

Bekker, who signed with the Deltas in February, spent last season with the Montreal Impact of MLS. The 5-foot-10 Ontario native played four seasons in MLS, starting out with Toronto FC before moving onto FC Dallas and Montreal. He has 18 Canadian national-team caps to his name.

The Deltas will remain at home for their next contest, which comes against North Carolina FC on Saturday, April 8, at 7 p.m. PT (10 p.m. ET). The game can be seen live on the @sfdeltas official Twitter page.
