Miami FC finished its first NASL season with a 1-0 win at Ocean Bank Field on Friday night against FC Edmonton. The Eddies will play Indy Eleven on Nov. 5 in a semifinal game.

Ariel Martinez, who scored Miami’s lone goal during the club’s first win, which was a 1-0 victory over FC Edmonton, found the target once more against the Eddies (10W-6D-6L, 36 points Fall; 15-8-9, 53 Combined). After playing the ball to Blake Smith, the Cuban international eventually got the ball back and struck a low shot that beat FC Edmonton goalkeeper Tyson Farago for the lead in the 65th minute. Martinez’s seventh goal of the year also ended up the winner.

Miami (9-6-7, 33 Fall; 10-10-12, 40 Combined) nearly took the lead in the first half, only to be denied by the woodwork twice. Jaime Chavez’s header came off the post in the 10th minute and, seven minutes later, Kwadwo Poku’s chipped effort from inside the 18-yard box came off the crossbar. Being denied by the goal frame continued in the second half for Miami as well. Poku sent in a cross from the right that was met by a diving Chavez, but the ball bounced off the right post and was eventually cleared by the Eddies.
