The Fort Lauderdale Strikers extended their unbeaten streak to seven games, grinding out a 1-1 draw against Rayo OKC at Miller Stadium on Sunday night. Brazilian forward Maicon Santos struck midway through the second half to give the Strikers the lead, but his fellow countryman Michel clinched a share of the points by converting a late penalty kick for Rayo.

The game picked up significant pace once the second half kicked off, with Santos burying a rebound given off by Rayo goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes in the 61st minute. The hosts should have been level in the 75th minute when a cross from Rayo defender Kosuke Kimura found forward Billy Forbes in front of the net, but the Turks and Caicos international somehow skied his close-range effort over the crossbar.

Forbes made up for his miss in the 83rd minute, though. The speedy forward dribbled into the penalty area, drawing a foul that set Michel up with an opportunity from the spot. The Brazilian buried his effort, as he almost always does, equalizing the game to earn a point.

Three points would have gone a long way for either side as they need to begin making up ground in the standings to be in a position to contend for a spot in The Championship.
