The New York Cosmos kept their lengthy home unbeaten streak alive with a 1-0 victory against Minnesota United FC at Shuart Stadium on Saturday night, extending their lead in the NASL Fall Season standings to six points over FC Edmonton.

New York snapped Minnesota’s five-game unbeaten streak in which the Loons had scored only four goals. The Cosmos are now unbeaten in seven games overall; and have outscored the visiting opposition, 32-6, at home in 2016.

David Diosa scored a highlight-reel goal in the 32nd minute to give New York (9-3-2, 30 Fall; 15-3-6, 48 Combined) a 1-0 lead. Ruben Bover lofted a left-footed, 35-yard cross from the right to the streaking Diosa on the left side of the penalty area. Diosa smacked a left-footed volley over Minnesota (5-5-4, 20 Fall; 10-6-8, 36 Combined) goalkeeper Sammy Ndjock for his third goal of the year.

The Loons had their best chance to knot the score in the 75th minute when the NASL’s leading goal-scorer, Christian Ramirez, was thwarted in his bid for his 15th goal of the year by a fingertip save by Jimmy Maurer. Maurer again denied Ramirez from point-blank range five minutes later.
