It took eight tries, but the New York Cosmos finally recorded a victory against Indy Eleven. Giovanni Savarese’s side cruised to a 3-0 triumph over the NASL Spring Season Champions at Shuart Stadium on Wednesday night, getting a pair of goals from Venezuelan star Juan Arango, who has found the back of the net four times in the last two games.

Spanish midfielder Ruben Bover got the Cosmos (8W-2D-2L, 26 pts) on the board only eight minutes into the game, firing a shot low into the corner of the net following a pass from forward Jairo Arrieta. Arango converted from the penalty spot in 17th minute to double New York’s advantage after midfielder Danny Szetela was pushed over by Indy defender Nemanja Vukovic.

After missing a penalty early in the second half, Arango redeemed himself with a tidy finish off a cross from Bover to make it 3-0. The former Bundesliga star powered home a header that narrowly evaded visiting goalkeeper Jon Busch.

It was a frustrating night for the Eleven (6-2-4, 20 pts), as defender Cory Miller was sent off in the 53rd minute for hauling down Cosmos midfielder David Diosa in the penalty area.
