The New York Cosmos vaulted to the top of the Fall Season and Combined Standings on the strength of an attacking onslaught, which yielded six goals. FC Edmonton and Indy Eleven both earned draws, but are still firmly in the mix for a Fall Season title.
Here's how coaches and players reacted to the results of Week 9:
New York Cosmos coach Giovanni Savarese on the team's explosive second half against the Carolina RailHawks
"I think in the second half the team came with a different mentality. I'm very proud of the guys for the way they came to play. It was some quality play from the players and a good result for us."
FC Edmonton coach Colin Miller on the team's scoreless draw with Puerto Rico FC
“We got into great areas, but unfortunately our final delivery wasn’t quite there. We never looked under any pressure, especially in the second half. I can’t fault the players efforts today because there was no shortage of effort, which is frustrating because it just means we just missed the final delivery.”
Tampa Bay Rowdies coach Stuart Campbell on the end of the three-game losing streak
"It's good to finally get the reward for our performance. I've stood here too often saying, 'Well, we played really well but [didn't get a result].' Tonight we played really well again but got the result. It's really pleasing to see how the guys continually pick themselves up when things aren't going for them. It shows the character, the togetherness, and the team spirit is spot on.”
Tampa Bay midfielder Joe Cole on getting the win against Rayo OKC
"I feel we played well again tonight. All credit to the staff and the players. It's nice to score, but the main thing is the team wins. I'm all about the team."
Ottawa Fury FC coach Paul Dalglish on his side's performance in the draw with Indy Eleven
“I think we did enough to win that game today and we can take great confidence from that. We had chances. I think Ryan Williams had a couple of chances in the first half - we’ve got to be pleased.”
Ottawa midfielder Ryan Williams on nearly finding the back of the net
“First one was unlucky as it got blocked, the second one I thought I could have done better with. It’s another point on the board and I think we could have had three today.”
Miami FC coach Alessandro Nesta on earning a point against Minnesota United and looking ahead
“This was the third match in one week and I think we played well. Now we have a week to rest up and get ready for our important trip to Puerto Rico.”
