Gerard Nus, the new coach of Rayo OKC, has experience working in a number of countries around the world and with several top coaches, including Rafael Benitez during his time at Liverpool of England’s Premier League. Nus replaced Alen Marcina on Friday ahead of Rayo OKC’s Fall Season Week 6 contest at the New York Cosmos on Sunday afternoon. He joined the Oklahoma-based club from Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, the club’s majority shareholder.

In addition to his time in the northwest of England, Nus has worked under Gus Poyet as head of academy coaches at  Brighton Hove Albion FC (England), in the K-League with Chunnam Dragons (South Korea), in the A-League with Melbourne Heart and Melbourne City (Australia), as an assistant under Avram Grant with Ghana’s national team, and at Elche CF (Spain).

Nus was named the assistant technical director for Rayo Vallecano de Madrid last month.

Rayo OKC’s new coach has been earning coaching certificates since the age of 16, when he earned the Federation Football Coaching Level 1 (Spanish Federation). Nus completed his Level 3 certificate at the age of 22, which earned him the qualification to work with top division teams in his home country.

Previously based in Barcelona, Spain, he holds a UEFA Pro-A license and a degree in Sport Science. He has also served as a TV analyst of FC Barcelona games on Catalan TV3/Canal Esports 3. He has also written a tablet app, called Efficiency Match, for use as a professional coaching tool.

“Gerard brings with him a wealth of experience to Oklahoma City, having worked with well-known clubs in a number of countries,” said Raúl Martín Presa, the chairman of Rayo Vallecano de Madrid. “Through the knowledge gained from his coaching stints all over the world, we believe he is the right person to lead Rayo OKC moving forward.”
