Rayo OKC signed Oklahoma City natives Adrian Ables and Bryan Byars today for the NASL Fall Season.
Ables, a 22-year-old Midwest City native, comes to Rayo OKC as a rookie in professional soccer. The midfielder spent the past four years playing collegiate soccer at DePauw University, which competed in Division III of the NCAA, as a forward. Ables scored 18 goals and had 17 assists in 75 games played for the Tigers.
Byars played as a goalkeeper collegiately at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) and holds USAO records for career wins (64) and shutouts (46). Byars graduated from Putnam City North High School and was named All-America and All-State his senior year. In 2008, he was a Gatorade National Player nominee.
Byars will replace back-up goalkeeper Caleb Patterson-Sewell. Patterson-Sewell is on the team’s inactive list due to a leave of absence. Ables and Byars have been on trial and training with Rayo OKC since early in the season.
Rayo OKC coach Alen Marcina said: “Both are local talents who have put the time in and trialed with the club. We want to reward those who work hard and are committed to making our roster. We are very happy to have them and they add depth and give hope to those other local guys that may want to make a professional roster one day.”
