FC Edmonton defeated Ottawa Fury FC, 2-0, in the second leg of the Amway Canadian Championship series between the sides, but it wasn’t enough for the Eddies in the end.

Ottawa advanced to the semifinals of the competition on a 3-2 aggregate win and will now face MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps FC. It's the first time the club has reached the semifinal stage.

Salvadoran international Dustin Corea found the back of the net with a strike from 25 yards out in the 27th minute that flew past Ottawa goalkeeper Marcel DeBellis for the first goal of the game.

Four minutes later, the Eddies narrowly missed out on a second. Tomi Ameobi was on the end of Adam Eckersley’s cross, but the shot went inches wide at the near post.

The Eddies would find a second goal, though, right before the halftime whistle. Eckersley’s free kick went untouched through the box before it bounced into the top corner past a diving DeBellis.

Despite a nervy finish for Ottawa, Fury FC was able to hold on after a commanding first leg performance. Fernando Timbó, Carl Haworth, and Idan Vered scored in the 3-0 first-leg win.

Ottawa’s next match in the Amway Canadian Championship will be on June 1 at TD Place before a trip to Vancouver the following week.
