Ottawa Fury FC notched a big victory at Clarke Field against FC Edmonton in the first leg of the Amway Canadian Championship series between the teams. The 3-0 win gives Ottawa a decisive advantage heading into the second leg at TD Place next Wednesday. It was the club's first win in the Canadian Championship.

Fury FC took an early lead over FC Edmonton from a set piece and never looked back. James Bailey sent in a free kick and Fernando Timbó flicked his header to the far corner, despite running away from goal in the 13th minute.

Ottawa goalkeeper Marcel DeBellis made a key save when he got a hand to Shamit Shome’s header from close range shortly before the halftime whistle.

Fury FC doubled the advantage when Eddies goalkeeper Matt VanOekel’s pass was intercepted by Lance Rozeboom, who sent a square pass to Carl Haworth. The Canadian midfielder then slotted the ball into an empty net in the 69th minute.

Five minutes later, Idan Vered tallied a third goal for the visitors when he nodded home Marcel de Jong’s cross at the back post. Vered became the first Israeli player to play and score in the competition.
