The New York Cosmos did what no other NASL side could in the Spring Season: defeat the Carolina RailHawks. Venezuelan international Yohandry Orozco provided the difference in the 1-0 win.

Orozco was making his first start for the New York Cosmos, and he scored his first goal for the club just before the halftime whistle. He weaved his way through several defenders and then fired his shot past RailHawks (4W-0D-1L, 12 points) goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre, who was filling in for Akira Fitzgerald after his mother passed away earlier in the week.

Cosmos goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer made a key save in the 69th minute to deny Brian Shriver, who had found space cutting in from the left. Maurer made another crucial save in the 85th minute when he tipped James Marcelin’s effort over the bar. Minutes later he raced off his line and out of his 18-yard box to make a tackle on a streaking Tiyi Shipalane to clear the danger.

The Cosmos (3-0-2, 9) rebounded after back-to-back losses on the road, while conceding late goals in both. New York is now unbeaten at home with three shutouts so far. The win keeps the Cosmos in the hunt for the Spring Season title.
