FC Edmonton announced the signing of striker Jake Keegan as well as the re-signing of defender Eddie Edward, pending league approval, on Thursday.

Keegan, 24, arrives in Edmonton after an impressive two seasons with Galway United of the League of Ireland Premier Division. In 2014, the Stormville, New York, native registered 17 goals in 37 appearances across all competition. Last season, Keegan scored 16 goals in 40 appearances. Galway United finished as the 2015 runner-up for the league cup. Keegan was drafted by MLS’s Philadelphia Union in the 2013 Supplemental Draft.

“Jake has good pace, he is dangerous around the box, and he can see a pass early,” FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. “He is a different type of player from what we currently have at the moment and I think he will be full of enthusiasm to play for us."

Edward, 27, returns after a consistent 2015 season where he finished second on the team in minutes played for outfield players, collecting 2,238 minutes in 24 NASL appearances. The Ottawa native showed his versatility down the stretch for the Eddies, stepping into a holding midfield role in several matches. It will be Edward’s fourth season with the club.

“Eddie filled in with some quality in some gaps for us last season,” Miller said. “With the quality and experience he has at right back, I think he has become a far more well-rounded player. I’m looking for Eddie to be a leader in the group. He spoke up a couple times last season. I was very pleased to see that leadership within him. I think there is more to come from him.”
