The Northern Irish defender captained the side since 2013

FC Edmonton announced on Thursday that defender and captain Albert Watson re-signed with the club.

Watson, 30, has led the Eddies as captain since arriving in 2013 and led the team in minutes played last season with 2,464 in 28 NASL appearances. The Northern Ireland native was a staple on an Eddies back line that finished the NASL Fall Season with the third-best goals against record behind the New York Cosmos and Ottawa Fury FC.

“I’m really pleased Albert has re-signed with the club,” FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. “He is one of the most experienced center backs in the league and was one of my first signings at the club alongside Daryl Fordyce. He has now become a dad so I’m sure we will see a well-rounded Albert Watson this upcoming season.”
