FC Edmonton continues its push for an NASL postseason berth this weekend, hosting the New York Cosmos at Clarke Field on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 4:00 p.m. ET. The Eddies look to continue their impressive play of late that has resulted in a pair of back-to-back, clean-sheet victories to place them two points out of fourth place in the league standings.

Defensively, Edmonton has been lights out through the past three matches, conceding just a single goal in a 1-1 draw to Minnesota United on Sept. 6. They have not allowed a goal since then, shutting out the Tampa Bay Rowdies, 1-0, before posting an impressive 2-0 performance on the road against Indy Eleven. The positives continued for the Eddies, with team assist leader and goalscoring co-leader Lance Laing adding his seventh assist on the year last Saturday. The team has also received a pair of goals from striker Daryl Fordyce over the past three-games.

The Cosmos will be aiming to shake off a 4-1 loss to Fall Season leader Ottawa Fury FC on Tuesday. The Spring Season Champion leads the Combined Standings with 43 points and will be looking to avoid a third consecutive match without a victory. Leo Fernandes leads the squad in goals scored with seven, one ahead of teammate and world-renowned forward Raúl. The Real Madrid legend has put forth a solid inaugural NASL campaign since arriving in New York, totaling six goals and three assists in 23 appearances this year.

The two teams met once during the Spring Season, with the Cosmos earning a 4-2 victory at Shuart Stadium in New York. Carlos Mendes earned a brace in the match, while Lucky Mkosana and Raúl also registered goals. Eddies striker Tomi Ameobi and midfielder Ritchie Jones potted goals for the visiting side.

Sunday is the first of two meetings between the Eddies and Cosmos over the next three weeks, as they conclude their season series back in New York on Oct. 11.

“Sunday is going to be an exciting fixture,” FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. “You look at the schedule and you look to see when you are playing the Cosmos. It’s similar to my playing days when we would play Rangers or Celtic in the Premier League, these would be the games that are always special occasions. The Cosmos are a terrific side, and they will be looking to bounce back. We will have to be at our very best.”
