FC Edmonton is looking to overturn a tough two weeks with a result at home against Minnesota United in NASL Fall Season action. The two sides will square off on Sunday, September 6 at Clarke Field at 4:00 p.m. ET in the final match to determine the winner of the supporter-run Flyover Cup competition.

The Eddies will be looking to put an end to a challenging two weeks that included defeats to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and the Atlanta Silverbacks. The Eddies offense has uncharacteristically struggled to find the back of the net in their last two matches, while their defense has continued to perform admirably in spite of the overall results. Despite back-to-back losses, the Eddies remain just three points shy of a spot in The Championship.

Minnesota will be coming to Clarke Field with a lot of confidence. The visitors are currently undefeated in their last four matches and have won their last three. United’s hot form started when they hosted the Eddies in a 1-1 draw before defeating league-leading Ottawa Fury FC in the nation’s capital by a score of 2-1. The American side would then register a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies before hosting Indy Eleven in a 1-0 victory. United will be looking to secure its third road victory in a row when they travel to Edmonton in hopes of solidifying a postseason berth.

The Eddies first faced Minnesota in a 2-2 draw at Clarke Field in the Spring Season. Miguel Ibarra and Jamie Watson were the scorers for United on the day, while Tomi Ameobi and Lance Laing registered goals for the home side. The two teams’ most recent encounter occurred just two weeks ago with the Eddies battling to a 1-1 draw in Minnesota. Christian Ramirez opened the scoring for United before Ameobi pulled one back for the Eddies to secure a valuable point.

With both matches finishing in draws, Sunday’s fixture is now the deciding factor in determining who will capture The Flyover Cup. The annual, supporter-run competition began in 2011, with Minnesota having held onto the Cup since 2012
