FC Edmonton recorded a clean sheet in a 2-0 home win over Indy Eleven, with goals from Albert Watson and Tomi Ameobi leading the way.

The Eddies captain opened the scoring for the Eddies in the first half, while Ameobi would go on to double the Eddies’ lead in the second half from the penalty spot. Goalkeeper Matt VanOekel earned the clean sheet in net.

The Eddies started the match strong and almost opened the scoring on five minutes when Lance Laing worked a cross in from the left wing. Teammate Ritchie Jones collected the ball before letting go of a strike that was swallowed by goalkeeper Keith Cardona.

FC Edmonton would take the lead on 16 minutes through Watson. The defender met Laing’s in-swinging corner kick with a thumping header that found the left corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

VanOekel was forced into action towards the end of the first half when Indy generated some offensive momentum. VanOekel had to make two quick saves, first on Wojciech Wojick after the forward struck a shot from range and then another save from in close after Charlie Rugg attempted a shot from a tight angle.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Eddies came close to doubling their lead. Laing found Ameobi with a terrific cross, but the striker’s header from six yards out went just over the crossbar.

Eddie Edward showed some great skill just after the hour mark when the defender crossed the ball into the box after some great wing play. Daryl Fordyce met Edward’s cross with a header, but his attempt narrowly missed the net.

The Eddies struck again on 69 minutes after Laing earned his side a penalty kick. After receiving a cross-field pass from Fordyce, the Jamaican international flicked the ball in the box, striking the hand of Indy defender Judson McKinney. Ameobi stepped up and found the back of the net with a calm finish.

Edmonton’s defense would hold strong for the remaining 20 minutes of the match to earn their third clean sheet victory of the Fall Season.

“Overall it was a deserved three points,” FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. “The guys put in a good shift and created chances in both halves. It’s nice to be back in the win column, and I am delighted with the three points.”
