Minnesota United announced Tuesday the arrival of midfielder Yago Moreira Silva for the Fall Season. Yago joins United on loan from Brazilian Série A club Vasco da Gama for the Fall Season.

"Yago is a kid that we got to see when we were in Brazil. He's a young player on the rise and in the exciting beginning stages of his career, so we're excited to have him come to play in this environment and be a part of the club," Minnesota United head coach Manny Lagos said. "Certainly we lost some offensive players for different reasons this year, but we have to continue to build and get better with this group and continue to progress through the season positively. We're excited to bring him in and have his qualities in the roster."

The Brazil native brings a lot of pace to Minnesota’s attack. He opens up space by pushing to the end line and playing crosses into the penalty area from a tight angle. Yago’s speed allows him to run at defenders and create many individual chances as well. His ability to draw defenders out from the middle of the pitch and sneak in behind the defensive line makes him a valuable asset in a speedy counterattack.

"Since I heard of the possibility to play for Minnesota, I was delighted. It's a good opportunity for me and you can be sure that I will give my best to correspond the expectations,” Yago said. “I know Minnesota is a club with great structure in a very good city, and they have many Brazilians which will help me too! I thank the coaches and directors for their trust and for opening doors for me.”

Yago came up through the youth ranks at Vasco, who were defeated by Minnesota, 1-0, during the preseason, to earn a spot with the first team in 2012. The 21-year-old made his first appearance in 2014, where he scored a goal in his debut and later helped Vasco return to Série A after being relegated the previous season. He has made 33 appearances and scored two goals for Vasco. He also played for Brazil’s U-17 national team in 2010.
