San Antonio Scorpions look to bounce back after a tough season-opening loss when they host Indy Eleven

Two weeks after opening the season with a euphoric championship ring ceremony and a less-than euphoric outing against the Tampa Bay Rowdies, the San Antonio Scorpions will put on the shin guards and don their colors tonight for a league home game against Indy Eleven at Toyota Field.

The Eleven will enter the match sitting sixth in the NASL Spring Season standings on two points after earning a pair of 1-1 draws in their first two matches against the Atlanta Silverbacks and New York Cosmos.

“They are undefeated, its only two games of course but they got draws and did well against the Cosmos,” Scorpions head coach Alen Marcina said. “They are very fit, very direct, they are going to look to hit their two strikers fast and early.”

One of the strikers to keep an eye on for Indy is Brian Brown. Brown opened his scoring account for 2015 with a fine finish in the 12th minute against the Cosmos that gave Indy a 1-0 lead. The Cosmos later drew level to prevent the Eleven from gaining the three points. On Saturday, the Scorpions will have their hands full with Brown and a squad that is hungry for success.

“They are a team that ended up really well last year, and they kept most of their players from last year,” Scorpions midfielder Josué Soto said.  “They grinded out two results so far this year, and I am sure they will be looking for their first win, so we expect a tough game.”

Even though it will only be San Antonio’s second contest of the year, the Scorpions will also be looking for the win to keep pace in the Spring Season Championship race. At the very least, the Scorpions will look to put the events of their opener against Tampa Bay behind them.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, our first few games,” Scorpions defender Nana Attakora said.  “If you look at our game against Tampa Bay, we gave up three goals, but they all came from three personal errors.”

Should the Scorpions manage to cut down on the errors, both personal and team, they stand a good chance of earning not just a point against Indy but quite possibly all three available.
