Ottawa Fury FC announced Wednesday the signing of former Toronto FC defender Ryan Richter. Richter joined Fury FC on loan from Toronto FC in June and  returned to the MLS club at the end of the season. Richter becomes the 14th member of the 2014 squad to return for 2015.

"We are very happy to have Ryan join us. Last year wasn’t always easy for him, going back-and-forth between Ottawa and Toronto FC," said Fury FC head coach Marc Dos Santos. "Now he will have the chance to adapt in the right manner. Ryan loves the team, he’s happy here, and wants to grow as a player. He’s definitely the type of profile we want in our locker room."

Richter, 25, is a 6’2 defender who split his time between right back and centre back while on loan with Fury FC during the NASL Fall Season. The versatile defender featured in 15 games for Fury FC playing over 1300 minutes. Richter also chipped in with one goal which, at the time, proved crucial as his stoppage time heroics earned Fury FC a draw in San Antonio keeping their post-season ambitions alight for the time being.

"I am very happy to be returning to Ottawa," said Richter. "I would like to thank Marc and his staff for making this possible and I can’t wait to again be part of this project bringing a great team to the city and our fans."

The Southampton, PA native was drafted by the Philadelphia Union in the 1st round of the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft. After one season with the Union where he was loaned out to USL PRO side Harrisburg, Richter signed with the Charleston Battery in 2012 helping them to a USL PRO Championship alongside Fury FC teammate Nicki Paterson. He would sign with Toronto FC in 2013 featuring in 13 games in his return to the MLS.
