Hamilton played for the Calgary Foothills Soccer Club growing up in Calgary. In 2006 he went to Cape Breton University and was a 2nd Team AUS All-Star and the AUS Rookie of the Year. In 2007 he transferred to Trinity Western University and was a 1st Team Canada West All-Star and 2nd Team CIS All-Canadian. In 2008 he played for the Vancouver Whitecaps PDL team and in 2009 he was named 1st Team Canada West All-Star, Canada West MVP, 1st Team All-Canadian and CIS MVP. Hamilton joined FC Edmonton for the 2010 exhibition season.
