The NASL's Ottawa Fury FC announced Vinicius (Vini) Dantas as the club’s seventh and final international signing, pending international transfer.
The Brazilian forward joins the first-year NASL club from Finnish Premier League side FC Lahti after spending the previous three years playing in Norway. Dantas, the club’s fifth forward signing, will join the club later this month.
“I’m very excited to be joining the club and the City for this new journey,” said Dantas. “When Marc spoke to me about what he is wanting to do in Ottawa it won me over. I’m very glad that I’ll have the opportunity to feature in the inaugural season with Fury FC and I hope that I can add attacking power to the team and bring excitement to the fans supporting us.”
Dantas, 24, is a 6’0 forward that trialed in England with Tranmere Rovers before signing with Norwegian club Molde FK – managed byformer Manchester United great Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Molde would win the Tippeligaen, the Norwegian top division, in Dantas’ first year with the club. Thanks to their successful 2012 campaign, Dantas earned experience in the UEFA Champions League featuring in the second qualifying round against Latvian side FK Ventspils. Molde would defend their title in 2012, but the Brazilian talent would split the season between Molde and Bodo/Glimt another top-flight Norwegian side. Dantas joined FC Lahti in the Finnish Premier League for the 2012/2013 season where he scored 6 goals.
“Vinicius is a player that will bring another dimension to our forward options,” said Fury FC Head Coach Marc Dos Santos. “He’s strong and dangerous around the 18-yard box and is another young player that will have room to grow and create a name for himself.”
Born in Sao Paolo, Brazil, Dantas predominantly played futsal while in Brazil and moved the United States at age 18 on a scholarship to Azusa Pacific. He would play three seasons with Azusa Pacific before moving to England.
With training camp underway at the Complexe Branchaud-Brière in Gatineau, the updated Fury FC roster is as follows:
