RailHawks Add Goalkeeper Goodwin, Defender Scott For 2014 Season

The NASL's Carolina RailHawks have bolstered their defense with the signings of goalkeeper Scott Goodwin and central defender Daniel Scott.  Goodwin returns to the Triangle area after a season in Iceland with IF Hottur.  Scott joins the RailHawks after two seasons with the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

“We are excited to announce the additions of Scott (Goodwin) and Daniel (Scott) for the 2014 season,” said RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke.  “Both individuals were identified early on in our scouting process and are very talented players that will be contributors in our pursuit of a Championship.”

A Raleigh-native and former UNC Men’s soccer standout, Goodwin becomes the 14th player since 2013 to join the RailHawks with North Carolina youth or collegiate soccer ties.  Goodwin amassed a spectacular career for the Tar Heels that few could match.  His 41 career shutouts, 7,103 minutes played, and 0.54 Goals Against Average are all UNC career records, in addition to holding five single season records.  In his four year career from 2009 to 2012, Goodwin was part of the UNC Men’s program that captured four straight ACC Regular Season Championships, the 2011 ACC Tournament Championship, four straight NCAA Tournament Appearances, three consecutive NCAA College Cup Appearances, and the 2011 NCAA Men’s Division I National Championship.

The 27-year old Scott joins the RailHawks with two years of NASL experience playing for the Tampa Bay Rowdies.  In his two seasons with the Rowdies, Scott has appeared in 28 matches and played 2,100 minutes.  In 2012, Scott captured the NASL Soccer Bowl with the Rowdies and started both matches in the Championship Series.  The 6-1 central defender was a four-year starter at the University of Gonzaga and in 2011 led the Kitsap Pumas of the Premier Development League to the PDL National Championship.  Scott is a two-time (2009, 2011) PDL All-League and Western Conference first team selection.
