Indy Eleven Owner Ersal Ozdemir has been honored by Indiana Soccer with the state soccer association’s prestigious President’s Award. The founder of the North American Soccer League expansion side was on hand to accept the President’s Award this evening at Indiana Soccer’s annual Awards Gala, part of this weekend’s Annual General Meetings at the Renaissance Hotel North in Carmel.
“To receive the President’s Award is very rewarding, as Indy Eleven’s partnership with Indiana Soccer has been nothing less than essential to the club’s outreach efforts across the state during our first year,” said Ozdemir. “I would like to thank Murray Clark for the recognition and the entire Indiana Soccer staff, led by Executive Director Dave Guthrie, for their continuous support in helping Indy Eleven lay the foundation for a successful 2014 and beyond.”
The President’s Award is reserved for individuals that uniquely, significantly and positively impact the Indiana Soccer family. Ozdemir is one of five recipients of the honor in 2014, joining Matthew Burkart (Indiana Soccer referee), Andy Cook (City of Westfield), Rob Smith (Eli Lilly & Co.) and Mark Spiegel (South Central Soccer Academy).
“Ersal has and continues to qualify as a President’s Award recipient, from his contribution in guiding and supporting Indiana’s bid to serve as a World Cup host to delivering the Guinness International Champions Cup game last summer at Lucas Oil Stadium – the biggest soccer event ever held in the state of Indiana,” said Guthrie. “His passion for the sport has brought professional soccer back to Indiana to stay through Indy Eleven, and his vision to grow the sport includes a stadium project that will serve as a showcase venue soccer fans will be proud of and young players across the state will aspire to play in. It’s an honor to share the journey toward such an exciting future, one that is being positively influenced by Ersal.”
The President’s Award was one of several honors handed out by Indiana Soccer at tonight’s Awards Gala, which also included recognitions of players, coaches, referees, volunteers and administrators from across the Hoosier State.
