Important Notes for NASL Teams for the Fall Season:

  • No corner flags, no play.

Fields MUST have corner flags. It is the responsibility of the home team to provide corner flags. If the home team can not provide them within 15 minutes of the start time of the match, then it is listed as a “no show” match. If flags are secured within the 15 minutes grace time, then the match is played with out a deduction in time.

  • No passes, No Play.

NASL matches - If a team shows up without coach or player passes, the offending team (the one without the passes) will pay the entire match's referee fees on the field at that time. If they refuse to pay, then the referees will contact Pat Miller and Mike Costello at NASOA and submit a report. It is the home team’s responsibility to inform the out of town teams of this issue. This is for NASL matches only. State matches require passes also but referee fees are not paid on the field.

  • Rule Change - Mandatory Caution for removing shirt

Law change for 2004, it is a mandatory caution if a player raises his/her shirt above the head or takes off the shirt in a celebratory/derogatory manner.

Fall 2006 Season:

There have been questions about how the NASL is going to implement small sided teams into the 2004 Fall season.  By that I mean how many players will be on the field at one time in U9, U10 and U11.  The answer is that we have already implemented the small-sided games as passed by the state guidelines for U9s, U10s and U11s. Here is where we are for the Fall 2004 Season and Spring 2005:

      U9 - 6v6
      U10 - 6v6
      U11 - 8v8
      U12 - 8v8
      U13 and above - Full sided 11v11

The chart we are using is on-line at
http://www.nasl.com/aysa/2003_small_sided_proposal.htm

The only places that we differ from the recommendations is that we will use whatever fields and goals are available. That doesn't mean that the U9s, U10s and U11s will be using full size fields. Rather, what it does mean is that we will use whatever small sided resources are available. In other words the U9s, U10s and U11s could all use the same size field and goals - which might be larger than those recommended. For example, we won't cancel games if the only goals available are 8 x 24 instead of the recommended 7x21 or 6x18.
It will be up to the new NASL board to decide if they will be able to mark off all fields for U9s, U10s and U11s at the same size or if they want to provide smaller fields and smaller size goals for the U9s. If they don't implement smaller fields for the U9s this year, then they probably will do so in Fall 2005 when both U9s and U10s play 6v6 and U11s and U12s will play 8v8.

Fall 2006 SEASON:

1.  Teams MUST play a home and home series with each team they schedule.  In other words a Huntsville team cannot opt to play both of their games against an out of town team in Huntsville.  They cannot refuse to travel to Madison, Athens, Decatur, Cullman, Guntersville, Scottsboro, Florence, etc. unless the out-of-team wants to play in Huntsville.  NASL is trying to encourage the development of fields all over North Alabama and it is felt that the outlying communities will never fully develop if Huntsville teams refuse to travel there.

2.  It is suggested that all managers have a list of their “NO PLAY” dates with them when they come to the scheduling meeting.

3.  It is suggested that ALL TEAMS (including those in the State League) have a representative at the scheduling meeting.

4.  There were a number of games cancelled in the fall season after the cut-off date of Sunday at 6pm.  It was understood that the inclement weather played a part in some of those cancellations but many were cancelled for non-weather related reasons. Although those teams incurred no penalty for the canceling; NASL did.  The league had to pay NASOA the standard scheduling fee on all games that weren’t cancelled by 6pm on Sunday.  There was a discussion on whether we needed to subject those teams to a penalty.  The decision was that (for the spring season) we would ask teams to particularly diligent about canceling in time.  If that does not work out we will try a different solution in the coming fall.

4.  New teams must register through an existing club in order to get their USYSA player and coach cards.  Rec-Plus teams may register through their own club or they may register through NASL/COHPAR (Belton MacCary 880-6418).  Cost is about $12 per card for insurance and player card.

5.  Please provide all updates to the NASL Team page to Johnny Smith for any additions for the spring season or changes from the fall season.  Please do this as soon as possible so that team coaches and manager contact phone numbers and e-mail addresses are updated before the scheduling meeting. If you are unsure about who is listed please check the NASL Team Page at http://www.nasl.com/teams.htm  Please fill out the NASL Membership Affiliation Form and send it in.

6.  All teams considering playing in the Rec-Plus league should contact Belton MacCary 880-6418 before the team scheduling meeting so that she will have the necessary information to coordinate the meeting.

NASL Referee Rates for Fall 2006

NASL Club Pass System

NASL has approved and instituted a "CLUB PASS" system which will allow players to move freely among the teams in their club in their NASL (Division III) games.  A club pass system would allow a player to train with and play local and friendly matches with other teams within her/his own club as long as the player was age appropriate. Any registered player in the state is eligible to use this system if they are a member of a club that has additional teams they could train/play with. The club pass system would NOT apply to tournaments, would NOT apply to State League matches (either Division I or Division II) and would NOT apply to any of the state AYSA sponsored tournaments (Governor's Cup, Division II, Division I).
To employ the club pass system the coaches within a club would come to agreement on what players were going to temporarily shift to another team within the club for a match, and the player’s ASA pass would be transferred to the gaining team for the match. At check in the referees would simply insure that all players are a member of that club and that no child is playing with a team younger than they are allowed to be on.
At the end of the match the player’s pass would be returned to her/his assigned team.
The system provides an excellent way to give some players additional training/playing opportunities to further their development without subjecting them to an excessively competitive environment and without creating an administrative burden. It also allows clubs to avoid canceling or rescheduling matches when injuries/conflicts/etc reduce the roster of available players. This would be a club managed system, not requiring the involvement of the state association (AYSA, ASA).
