Stewart started his professional career in 2008 with League of Ireland Premier Division team Derry City. He spent two years with Derry before signing with the Shamrock Rovers FC, the most successful club in the Republic of Ireland, where helped the team capture its 16th domestic crown.
The 5-foot-11 striker scored Rovers' winner in the Europa League tie against Bnei Yehuda in July 2010 which set up the tie against Italian titans Juventus.
On the International stage, Stewart was a member of Northern Ireland's U-15, U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19 and U-21 National Teams, captaining the U-21 squad. He appeared in 19 matches for the U-21 team, notching four goals.
