Kharlton Belmar came to the New York Cosmos in October 2015, on a short-term loan from Portland Timbers 2 of the United Soccer League (USL).
Belmar was the leading goal scorer for T2’s inaugural season, tallying 12 goals and recording three assists in 28 games. Belmar finished the year ranked seventh overall in goals (12) and tied for seventh in points (27) in the USL. The Virginia Beach, Va., native featured in all 28 of Portland’s USL matches.
Belmar was originally selected in the second round (No. 34 overall) of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft out of Virginia Commonwealth University.
A Virginia Beach, Va. native, Belmar finished his senior season as co-leading goal scorer at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2014, recording four goals in 19 matches. During his four-year career with the Rams, Belmar logged 18 goals and five assists in 76 appearances.
