Indy Eleven is still alive in the hunt for a spot in the postseason, and the Boys in Blue have forward Eamon Zayed to thank. The club’s leading goalscorer added another three tallies to his name in Week 11, earning NASL Player of the Week honors.

Zayed helped Indy pick up four points last week, scoring twice in the club’s 2-1 win over Puerto Rico FC on Wednesday and once in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with the New York Cosmos. The pair of results has Indy within five points of New York and Jacksonville, which are currently tied on points for the fourth and final spot in The Championship, the league’s four-club postseason tournament.

After a bit of a slow start in 2017, Zayed has been on fire during the Fall Season. The 34-year-old forward now has 10 goals this year – a total that is good for third in the NASL. The Dublin native scored 15 goals in his first season with Indy, and now has four more Fall Season games to get close to matching that total this year.

Zayed’s two-goal performance against Puerto Rico last Wednesday happened to land on his birthday. After an opportunistic goal in the first half, the Libyan international headed home what proved to be the winner in the 62nd minute.

On Saturday, Zayed scored midway through the second half to put the Boys in Blue up, 2-1, but the Cosmos quickly answered through Javi Márquez to earn a draw at Carroll Stadium.

The 6-foot-2 forward joined Indy prior to the 2016 season after a successful run in the top leagues of Ireland, Iran, and Malaysia. Since then, the Leicester City youth product has scored 25 goals in 57 league games for the NASL side.

Indy has a huge test ahead against league-leading Miami FC. The Boys in Blue host Miami this Saturday at 3 p.m. ET at Carroll Stadium, and they will need a positive result to stay in contention for a spot in the postseason. The game can be seen live on ESPN3 (U.S.) and NASL.com (Canada and rest of the world).
