TEAM OF THE WEEK | Spring Season Week 17

Players from Indy Eleven and Miami FC were at the forefront of top performers in the final weekend of the Spring Season

The final weekend of the Spring Season wrapped up and plenty of sides have gained momentum heading into the second half of the year. Indy Eleven, which placed three players on the Team of the Week, was hot in the final five weeks of the Spring, picking up four wins. Miami FC also continued to roll, earning two selections in Week 17.

Follow below for the full list of top performers in the final weekend of the Spring: 

GK: Jon Busch (Indy Eleven) – The veteran shot-stopper once again shined for Indy Eleven, making five saves to keep a clean sheet in the club’s 2-0 win over Jacksonville Armada FC.

DEF: Nemanja Vukovic (Indy Eleven) – He contributed at both ends of the field for Indy, winning five duels and making four interceptions. He also scored the first goal of the game in the Boys in Blue’s victory. Vukovic also earned Player of the Week honors in Week 17.

DEF: Phanuel Kavita (Puerto Rico FC) – The center back had a pair of strong performances in two contests for Puerto Rico in Week 17. He made a total of nine clearances and five duels over the two games. He also tallied his first goal for the club. Puerto Rico, though, was unable to win its two contests, first drawing Jacksonville Armada 1-1 and falling to North Carolina FC, 2-1.

DEF: Hunter Freeman (Miami FC) – The veteran made six clearances and won five duels as Miami wrapped up its Spring Season with a 3-1 win over the San Francisco a week after clinching the Spring title. In the contest, Freeman also added an assist.

DEF: Ryan Richter (New York Cosmos) – He made six interceptions as well as winning five duels and all three of his tackle attempts in the Cosmos’ 1-0 win against FC Edmonton.

MID: Brad Ring (Indy Eleven) – The longtime Indy midfielder picked up an assist on the club’s first goal and had a strong overall game. He won all seven of his duels, won three tackles, and made three clearances.

MID: Eric Calvillo (New York Cosmos) – The U.S. youth international scored the lone goal in New York’s victory.

MID: Lance Laing (North Carolina FC) – He provided a lung-gusting run to score in North Carolina’s victory over Puerto Rico.

FWD: Vincenzo Rennella (Miami FC) – The forward took sole possession of the top spot on the scoring chart with a pair of goals in Miami’s victory against San Francisco.

FWD: Derek Gebhard (Jacksonville Armada FC) – The young forward scored in second-half stoppage time to earn Jacksonville a draw against Puerto Rico FC. He was also a threat going forward in the club’s loss to Indy Eleven later in the week.

FWD: Tom Heinemann (San Francisco Deltas) – The NASL veteran scored for San Francisco and was just denied by the post on another effort at goal, providing some threat to Miami’s back line in the loss to finish the club’s first Spring Season.
