Puerto Rico FC scored the opening goal against the New York Cosmos, doing so with lovely team play. The build-up, the lay-off, and the finish created a stellar goal for the visitors. After an interchange on the flank, the ball was whipped in as forward Emery Welshman laid the ball back into the path of strike partner Giuseppe Gentile. The NASL veteran then smashed his shot past goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer.
Puerto Rico ultimately fell in the game, 4-3, but Gentile's finish and the build-up that led to it earned NASL Play of the Week honors.
