Puerto Rico FC started off the 2017 Caribbean Club Championship on the right foot, edging SV Transvaal of Suriname, 1-0, at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium on Tuesday night.

Hector "Pito" Ramos converted a penalty kick in the 28th minute after teammate Walter Ramirez was brought down in the area one minute earlier. PRFC came close to adding to their lead several times over the course of the game, but all of those chances went begging.

The result represented an ideal start for PRFC, which sits second in the group after the first game. Also on Tuesday night, Jamaican side Portmore United defeated Scholars International of the Cayman Islands, 2-0, putting them in first on goal differential.

Thursday's matchup is an important one, as PRFC hosts Portmore United in a clash that could be crucial in deciding the group winner. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET.
