North Carolina FC has picked up options on five players, the club announced today. Goalkeepers Brian Sylvestre and Macklin Robinson; defenders Paul Black and Kareem Moses; and forward Brian Shriver will return and join several players already under contract for the 2017 NASL season.

“This talented group of players returning is the first step in our plans for 2017,” North Carolina FC coach Colin Clarke said. “Together with our players already under contract they form the core group on which we will build a championship-caliber roster.”

The club has declined options on Akira Fitzgerald, Mickey Daly, Drew Beckie, Mitch Garcia, Marvin Ceballos, Aly Alberto Hassan, Billy Schuler, and Omar Bravo. While most of these players will not return, the club continues to negotiate with Schuler and Bravo to bring them back for 2017. Additionally, Austin da Luz’s contract has expired and he continues to negotiate with the club.

These returners will join players already under contract in forming the core of the 2017 North Carolina FC roster. Players under contract include Connor Tobin, Simon Mensing, Steven Miller, Tiyi Shipalane, Matt Watson, James Marcelin, Nazmi Albadawi, and Matt Fondy.
