TEAM OF THE WEEK | Fall Season Week 7

FC Edmonton goalkeeper Matt VanOekel continued his strong year with another clean sheet and key saves against Minnesota United, while Indy Eleven defender Colin Falvey and Jacksonville Armada FC forward Alhassane Keita scored crucial goals. All three players helped their teams to wins in Week 7 and were named to the Team of the Week.

GK: Matt VanOekel (FC Edmonton) – The veteran shot-stopper picked up his league-leading ninth clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Minnesota United. VanOekel made six saves to help lift the Eddies to a ninth straight home win.

DEF: Papé Diakité (FC Edmonton) – The center back helped keep a clean sheet in FC Edmonton’s win. He made four interceptions and three clearances to slow down the Loons’ attack.

DEF: Colin Falvey (Indy Eleven) – He helped marshal the defense, making four clearances. Falvey later scored the game-winning goal, pouncing on a loose ball in the box to extend Indy Eleven’s home winning streak to eight games in the 2-1 victory over Rayo OKC.

DEF: Gale Agbossoumonde (Fort Lauderdale Strikers) – The Strikers’ defense kept Miami FC without a shot on target and Gale Agbossoumonde was a big reason why. He won four duels, making three interceptions and two clearances in the 2-0 win.

MID: Matt Watson (Carolina RailHawks) – The midfielder battled all game long, winning six duels, and set up Matt Fondy’s game-tying goal in the 2-2 draw with Puerto Rico FC.

MID: Jemal Johnson (Jacksonville Armada FC) – He was a constant threat on the flanks and recorded both assists in Jacksonville’s road win over Ottawa Fury FC.  

MID: Paulo Junior (Fort Lauderdale Strikers) – He was able to poke the ball past Miami FC goalkeeper Daniel Vega to break the deadlock as the Strikers picked up a 2-0 road win.

MID: Adam Moffat (New York Cosmos) – The veteran midfielder scored twice in the Cosmos’ comeback win, firing both of his penalty-kick attempts past Tampa Bay Rowdies goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

FWD: Alhassane Keita (Jacksonville Armada FC) – The Guinean international scored both goals in the Armada FC’s first road win. He was also named Player of the Week.

FWD: Tomi Ameobi (FC Edmonton) – The forward was dangerous throughout his 90 minutes in the win over Minnesota and scored the eventual game-winner shortly after the second half started.

FWD: Héctor Ramos (Puerto Rico FC) – The Puerto Rican international added his first assist of the season with a nifty backheel to Paulo Mendes and then he scored his sixth goal of the year with a header past Carolina goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre in the draw with the RailHawks.
