Ottawa Retains Bruce Grobbelaar, Martin Nash For Coaching Staff

Ottawa Fury FC announced Wednesday that assistant coach Martin Nash and goalkeeper coach Bruce Grobbelaar will be returning to the club for the 2016 North American Soccer League season.

“I am really pleased that the continuity of the first team staff will be kept intact for 2016,” head coach Paul Dalglish said.

Nash joined Fury FC in October 2013 helping build the expansion club that would go on to capture the NASL Fall Season Championship in just their second season.  With a professional career that spanned more than 16 years in Canada, England, and the United States along with 38 caps at the senior level representing Canada coupled with his time coaching in Vancouver and Ottawa, Nash brings diverse and valuable experience to his role.

“Martin has been a tremendous asset to the club and its players during these crucial formative years. His experience and knowledge in the game has benefitted every player in this club,” Dalglish said. 

Legendary Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar signed with Fury FC in August 2014 bringing a wealth of experience to the goalkeeper coach position. The most decorated goalkeeper in the history of English Football has made his presence known not only with the success of starting 'keeper Romuald Peiser, who claimed the Golden Glove award as the NASL’s top keeper in 2015, but the development of Marcel DeBellis and Waleed Cassis. 

“You simply have to look at the strength of Fury FC in 2015 to see the impact that Bruce Grobbelaar has had on this club,” Dalglish said. “I don’t think you could ask for a better goalkeeper coach. The experience, knowledge, and passion that Bruce brings to his role is seen through the players in our club, and not just the keepers.”
