QUOTE SHEET | What They Said After Week 15

Find out what coaches and players had to say after the most recent results in the Fall Season

Three out of the four places in The Championship, the NASL’s four-team postseason tournament, are now booked after Minnesota United earned its spot with a win in Week 15 of the Fall Season. The New York Cosmos and Ottawa Fury FC have claimed the other two spots so far. The race for The Championship, though, is still set to go down for the wire, as the Tampa Bay Rowdies, Fort Lauderdale Strikers, and FC Edmonton are the main contenders for the remaining bid.

Here is what coaches and players said after the most recent round of results:

Carolina RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke on the performance in the win over Jacksonville Armada FC

“We put it to bed tonight. Lots of positives. It was a great and exciting game for the fans to watch. It was a strong performance with a couple of great goals.”

Indy Eleven interim head coach on his forward’s effort in the loss to the San Antonio Scorpions

“It was a tough game because [San Antonio] really got up close and didn’t leave much room. For Brian Brown, the work ethic was fantastic. He put a great 90-minute shift in and the only thing that would have topped it off would have been a goal.”

Indy midfielder Dylan Mares on returning to the scoresheet

“That’s a good goal for anyone because it gives you a little bit of confidence, knowing that you can still put it in the back of the net.”

Tampa Bay Rowdies head coach Stuart Campbell on his team’s fight in the draw with Ottawa Fury FC

“At halftime, I said no matter what happens in the second half, give me every ounce of energy you’ve got – do it for yourselves, do it for the fans, and do it for the club. We were down to 10 men for about 15 minutes and you’d never have known it.”

Tampa Bay forward Brian Shriver on his game-winning goal

“I saw Freddy get the ball at the top of the box and we were trying to get in behind the defense, so I made a run. He saw my run and played a fantastic ball for me. It was a ball I had to do something with and I was able to get my first touch on it and put it on goal and past the goalkeeper. It was a great ball and a great feeling to tie the game.”

Ottawa head coach Marc Dos Santos on conceding a late goal

"It was a very difficult game. We did well to be up at halftime, but in the second half we didn't do enough to finish the game. I felt we lost our midfield and didn't keep possession in a moment that we should of. At the end of the day, this could be a very important point for us."

Minnesota United head coach Manny Lagos on the team’s fast start and win over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers

"It was one of the best starts we've had all year. We absorbed a lot of pressure in the second half, and I think we could've been a little sharper to close the game out. We knew this would be like a playoff game, and this allowed us to get in the mindset of managing a game to get a result in big games in the future."

New York Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese on his side getting stronger at the end of the season and defeating FC Edmonton

“I think we’re looking very solid. I think the guys are starting to understand we’re getting to the end of the season and we need to finish strong. It was a good performance today, a good performance last game, but it was more the intensity and how we play together collectively that made the big difference.”

New York midfielder Sebastián Guenzatti on scoring in two games in a row

“My confidence was a little down because I haven’t been playing much in the beginning of the season. But I think I’m catching the confidence like I did last year, scoring a lot. Hopefully it will keep going.”

FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller on the loss to New York

“The first 35 minutes I thought we played well and defended well, but at end of the day we were beaten by a better squad. I can make all the excuses you want but sometimes you have to take your hat off to a better quality of team at this moment in time. It’s now history, we regroup, and we have to try and get three points against Carolina.”
