Minnesota United's persistence paid off on Wednesday night, finding a late goal to defeat Indy Eleven, 1-0, at the NSC Stadium in Blaine, Minn. The second-half goal from defender Justin Davis was his fifth of the season, and second in two matches.

"We've put ourselves in a good position with this result," United head coach Manny Lagos said. "We knew Indy was going to be tough to break down and it hurt our confidence not to convert some of the chances in the first half. In the end we got the win, which was a huge boost for us."

Coming off the bye week, United started off slow but still played quite aggressively. It dominated the offensive play in the first half, keeping the ball on Indy's side of the pitch. Minnesota connected on several point blank chances, but stellar goalkeeping by Indy's Keith Cardona kept the match level.

United continued to press the attack in the second 45 minutes, meeting strong resistance from the Indy defense. United goalkeeper Sammy Ndjock was called upon to make several key saves on the other end of the field to keep the match scoreless.

With less than 15 minutes remaining, Minnesota was able to find the go ahead goal it had been working for. Kevin Venegas raced to reach the ball before it crossed the end line, putting a perfectly placed cross into the penalty area. It fell to the feet of Davis, who struck the ball into the back of the net with his first touch.

"I was just in the right spot," Davis said. "I just had to take the chance when it came to me. We had a few times where the ball wasn't bouncing our way, but we were able to capitalize when it did which is key."

Indy tried to tie the match with a late offensive push, but Minnesota held on to get the clean sheet and its third straight victory.
