Minutes of the
NASL Board Meeting
Tuesday, August 19th, 2003

  • Held at the Fern Bell Rec Center Building

  • 6:00pm on Tuesday, August 19th, 2003

Meeting was held at Fern Bell Recreation Center at 6pm on Tuesday, August 19th, 2003.  Present at the meeting were the following board members: Christy Clark, Kari Elliott, Ed Turner, Belton MacCary, Craig Hardwick, Irene Wisner, Ken Gamble, Marty Eaton, and Jim Swain.   As this was also the 2003 Annual General Membership Meeting (and Scheduling Meeting) also present were managers and coaches of most teams.

Ken's note:  I lost the original minutes to this AGM meeting and what follows lacks many of the details of the meeting.  I will continue to look for them but what is shown below is my recollection and includes only the main items discussed and does not include everything.

Christy Clark called the meeting to order.

FOSNA:
The first order of business was to hear from Johnny Childress who represented FOSNA – Friends of Soccer, North Alabama.

Johnny, the President of FOSNA, talked about the rejuvenation of the FOSNA organization.
Currently the main goal of FOSNA is to complete the Merrimack Park facilities.
Johnny explained that he is working with Ralph Stone (of the City of Huntsville) to find public funding to help complete the work at Merrimack.  The Huntsville based clubs have agreed to pay a $20 per player fee for field development and improvement.  Negotiations are on-going to determine if and how much a fee that players that are not based in the city and who don’t use Huntsville fields for practice should be asked to pay.
Johnny said that we should start to see development soon on Phase II which includes a second entrance road for Merrimack Park and field development for Fields 6 & 7.  He stated that he has explained to the city that he doesn’t feel that restroom facilities should be a concern for FOSNA or local soccer leagues.  Since Merrimack is a public facility he felt the city should pay for and construct the restrooms.  Lighting the fields will have to wait at this time until field, parking and road construction is completed.
Johnny asked that all NASL members are welcome to send feedback to him.
Christy explained that NASL has always supported FOSNA and has given $15,000 ?? to the organization over the past three years.

Fall 2004 Game Scheduling

Games may be added to the schedule, before August 31, 2003 by the following process:

  • Notify Craig using team numbers the teams that will be playing.
Include the game date. (you'd be surprised)
You may request a time, however field or referee restrictions may require
    some adjustment.
Craig prefers e-mail notification of additions. Craig's new e-mail address is  AL1BEST@KNOLOGY.NET - Do NOT use his old AOL address.
The game addition deadline is Sunday, August 31, 2003 at 6:00 pm.

  • Games may be canceled from the schedule by the following process:
Games may not be canceled by e-mail.
A voice phone call to me at home or cellular phone, in that order,
notifying me of the game cancellation.
A message on my voice mail is not considered notification.
This notification must be 24 hours or more prior to play date and time.
You will be issued a game specific cancellation number. The cancellation number should be maintained for your records.

  • Additional Notes:
Any game scheduled is considered a valid game and both teams will be held responsible for no-show fees unless you have a cancellation number that can only be issued by me (there may be an alternate designated by the Web under cancellation directions.) Please contact me if you have any question regarding this information.

  • Cullman, Florence, Athens game times are listed on NASL schedule for
informational purposes only. It would be wise to confirm with teams in
    these areas regarding game times.

  • Please check your team number against the dates that you have and notify me of any changes.
