State Cup Issues:

  • NASL Responsibilities in Support of State Cup (Div 1 & 2) appear to be as follows:

    • Field Marshals and Parking Control.
Discussion- The board discussed sub-contracting out this task on a flat fee basis. It was decided that a fee of $400.00 to support the John Hunt facilities would be offered, $200.00 for games held at the Huntsville High facilities, and $400 for the games at the Merrimack complex. President Clark will contact various organizations to see if they wish to provide the required service at the fee mentioned above. Parking price will be $5.00 for a weekend pass. Passes are good for all locations.

Draft Scope of work for each site is as listed below:

      • John Hunt Facility:
The contractor will provide field marshals and parking control for John Hunt Park on Saturday 7 December and Sunday 8 December commencing at 7:00 am until completion at 5:00 pm on both days unless released earlier by the NASL President or her designated representative. The contractor will have 1 person stationed to control parking at the courtesy parking spot (by the police academy I think), 2 personnel to control parking and collect fees at the main entrance of John Hunt park, and one roaming field marshal to cover John Hunt fields 1, 2, and 4, in addition to providing back up traffic support as required.

      • Merrimack Facility:
The contractor will provide field marshals and parking control for the Merrimack complex on Saturday 7 December and Sunday 8 December commencing at 7:00 am until completion at 5:00 pm on both days unless released earlier by the NASL President or her designated representative. The contractor will have, 2 personnel to control parking and collect fees at the main entrance of Merrimack0 park, and two roaming field marshal to cover fields, in addition to providing back up traffic support as required.

      • Huntsville High School facilities:
The contractor will provide field marshals and parking control for the Huntsville High School soccer complex on Saturday 7 December and Sunday 8 December commencing at 7:00 am until completion at 5:00 pm on both days unless released earlier by the NASL President or her designated representative. The contractor will have, 2 personnel to control parking and collect fees at the main entrance of Merrimack park, and one roaming field marshal to cover fields, in addition to providing back up traffic support as required. Note-as of 11-21-02, Huntsville H.S. booster club has agreed to provide this service at the offered price (per email dtd 11-21-02, from Irene Wisner).

    • Hospitality.
Discussion- The board discussed alternatives for providing support ranging from trying to obtain donated items, to asking for donations of $100.00 each from the four major Huntsville/Madison clubs (North Alabama United, Kicks, Huntsville Soccer Club, and the North Alabama Soccer Club), with a matching donation from the NASL. The board agreed on the approach of asking the clubs for the donation and using matching funds from the NASL. Jim Wesseling will contact NAU, Belton McCrary will contact HSC, Irene Wisner will contact the Kicks, and Dave Ghoja will contact the North Alabama Soccer Club. President Clark will finalize details and menu's as required.

    • T-Shirts
Discussion- 830 T-shirts have been ordered to support State Cup. Field Marshals and concession stands will have them available for sale. Prices are $15 for short sleeve and $18 for long sleeve shirts.

    • There may be a Director Of Coaching meeting on Saturday night, but no details are available as of yet.

    • State Cup schedules are not yet available. Discussion was held regarding publicity efforts at State Cup, scheduling of older teams (both boys and girls) on the larger fields, and the lateness of the schedules precluding older kids from providing schedules to college coaches coming to scout them. President Clark agreed to forward these concerns on. Another topic of discussion regarded refunds to some teams for State Cup. Each team was charged $375.00 to enter, but some teams (mainly on the girls side) get only 1 or 2 games, which is excessive. The state has agreed to refund a portion of the fee, but no amount has been identified.

  • Other Agenda Items:

    1. NASL will receive a $640 refund from the NASOA assignor for an overcharge.

    2. January 31st, February 1st & 2nd, 2002 - There will be another referee certification course for new referees.

    3. The board decided to support the 3 referee system for the U9/10 recreation league this spring. Discussion centered around the cost impact and ability to provide younger referees opportunities to work lines with experienced centers during the spring season.

    4. Discussion regarding the use of Lee High School soccer field next fall for night games was tabled. Apparently, some safety concerns have prevented it from being used in the past, but Craig Hardwick agree to explore costs associated with bringing the field up to an acceptable standard. This would provide another large field with lights for night games next fall.
