Minutes of the NASL
Board Meeting of October 29th, 2003
-
Held at The Chinese Restaurant at the corner of Memorial Parkway and
Governors Drive in Huntsville
-
11:00am – 1:30pm
-
Board members present
at the meeting were: Christy Clark, Craig Hardwick, Irene Wisner, Becky
Vansant, Belton MacCary and Ken Gamble.
CALL TO
ORDER:
The meeting was called to order. The main topic of business was
Preparations for State Cups.
STATE CUP
STATE CUP –
DIVISION I
There are 63 teams attending this week’s Division
I State Cup. Games will be held at Rec Field, Kiwanis, John Hunt complex,
Bell Mountain, Randolph Garth, Randolph Drake, McGucken, Dublin (Madison),
UAH and the Merrimack complex.
PARKING PASSES:
Parking Passes are $5.00 each.
Will we be selling parking passes at the Friday night Registration
meeting?
Irene will design the passes for both Division I and Division II Cups
using the new 2003 State Cup logo. Ken will send her a copy of the logo.
Irene will print out enough passes (1,500 minimum) for this weekend on a
bright color paper.
The net proceeds from the sale of
parking passes will be donated to FOSNA for use in purchasing lights for
fields. It was proposed, seconded and voted in the affirmative that we
specify that the money can only be used for lights.
PARKING AND FIELD MARSHALL OUTSOURCING:
It was proposed and accepted to use soccer
booster clubs to take up money for parking passes and to provide field
marshals.
Grissom Girls Soccer Booster Club will handle these chores at the John Hunt
Soccer Complex. They will be paid $800 to cover the 40 games being played
there.
Bob Jones Soccer Booster Club will handle these chores at the Merrimack
Soccer Complex. They will be paid $600 to cover the 30 games being played
there.
At the remainder of the fields we will not take up money for parking
passes since most (if not all) of those teams will have to go to either
John Hunt or Merrimack at some time and will have to buy their pass there.
But field marshals will be needed at all those fields. There are 36 games
being played there but 4 will be handled by Craig and Becky so we need a
booster club to handle field marshalling at 32 games. It was proposed that
we pay $500 for that responsibility. The price is higher due to the
variety of locations that have to be covered even though parking pass
sales will not be made.
NOTE: The Grissom Boys Soccer Booster Club has accepted the
responsibility of providing field marshals for the "Other Fields" and will
be paid $500.
On Friday night there will be 3 games at John Hunt and 6 games at other
fields. On Saturday there will be 21 games at John Hunt, 17 at Merrimack
and 16 at other fields. On Sunday there will be 16 games at John Hunt, 13
at Merrimack and 14 at other fields.
TENTS:
Ten tents will be needed and will be borrowed
from the Kicks and RCIT.
Tents will need to be put up on Friday afternoon at each location.
TEE-SHIRTS:
It was suggested and agreed that we provide a
sample tee-shirt at each tent with a sign showing pricing and that they
can be purchased at John Hunt or Merrimack. Irene will provide signs for
the tee-shirts. We will need about 12 signs. The tee-shirts will be sold
for $15 for short sleeved shirts and $18 for long sleeved shirts. Christy
noted that there are a few ASA shirts available for the NASL Board
volunteers. Spare
SPONSORS:
The official sponsors for both the Division 1 and
2 tournaments are Pete’s Soccer Shop and Diadora. There was some question
whether Snickers is still an official sponsor since they are listed as the
official sponsor for the national tournament.
TABLES:
Tables will be needed and may be borrowed from Lee
Hovater with the City of Huntsville.
BINS:
Bins will need to be provided at each field for the
field marshals. Things to include in the bins are:
Emergency phone numbers, size 5 game balls (in the D2 tournament some size
4 balls will be required), field marshal instructions, tournament program,
vests for the field marshals, radio, updated game schedules.
REFEREES:
Water and ice will be needed for the referees.
HSC will provide some coolers. Becky and Irene are to purchase 600
bottles of water and will be reimbursed. Any water not used this weekend
will be used next weekend at the D2 tournament.
JAYCEE BUILDING:
Will the kitchen be available? Christy will check
and be sure since there is a haunted house there.
OTHER BUSINESS:
REC-PLUS
TOURNAMENT:
Which teams will be participating? Some ended
their season with the Governor’s Cup so Ken will send out an e-mail to
find out which teams will be playing and what group (U9, U10) they will be
playing in. Belton will check on trophies and/or medals for the first and
second place teams. No guest players will be allowed in the tournament. It
was decided that the deadline for entering the tournament will be next
Tuesday, November 4th.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL COURSE:
Christy recommended we contact the Red
Cross about a CPR course for coaches and managers. Ken recommended we
contact the Red Cross about a full Sports Medicine Course instead. It was
agreed to try and set this up for next fall or possibly spring if there
was interest.
TEAMS WHICH ARE NON-ACTIVE or NON-PAYING:
Remove the following teams from the website
as they are no longer in existence: #183, #023, #116, #145, #164, #221, #263.
