The first-place Carolina RailHawks (3W-1T-0L, 10pts) take on NASL-rival Fort Lauderdale Strikers (2W-0T-2L, 6pts) at Lockhart Stadium on Friday, August 30, at 7:30 pm ET. The RailHawks enter the match as one of two clubs that remain unbeaten during the Fall Season. Friday’s match will be broadcast live on www.CarolinaRailHawks.comand www.NASL.com.
The RailHawks journey to Lockhart Stadium currently riding a 4-game unbeaten streak and in search of their first road victory of 2013. The first trip to Fort Lauderdale resulted in a 1-1 tie when RailHawks forward and NASL leading goal scorer, Brian Shriver, pulled the match level in the 81st minute. The RailHawks will welcome back captain and team leading assist man, Austin da Luz, after serving a one-game red card suspension last week.
"It's another important week in the Fall Season,” said RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke. “Fort Lauderdale have gotten two good results that have put them in the thick of the Fall Season race. We are expecting another tough match on the road and will have to be ready to play from the opening whistle."
Friday’s match will open Week 5 with two of the NASL’s hottest teams. Both Carolina and Fort Lauderdale have earned the maximum 6 points over the last two weeks. The RailHawks extended their home unbeaten streak to 12 games with a 3-0 victory over the New York Cosmos and 1-0 victory over Minnesota United. After dropping two matches to open the Fall Season, Fort Lauderdale has ascended in the league standings with a 2-1 victory over San Antonio and a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Silverbacks.
The RailHawks played their only other NASL Friday night match on June 10, 2011 in Edmonton. That match ended in a 1-0 victory for the RailHawks over FC Edmonton, in the midst of a club record 13-game unbeaten streak.
Shriver Nets 12th Goal
RailHawks forward Brian Shriver continued to display his nose for the goal when he converted the game winner against Minnesota United on August 24. The 1-0 result left the RailHawks atop the NASL standings and Shriver leading the NASL with 12 goals on the season (4 in his last 4). Despite his individual successes, Shriver remains focused on the task at hand: “I am more concerned with how we do as a team and what we are doing week in and week out than the Golden Boot race.”
In NASL play, the RailHawks have not enjoyed their five previous trips to Fort Lauderdale. The 1-1 draw earlier this year, was the first point obtained at Lockhart Stadium since 2011 (0W-1T-4L). All-time, the RailHawks are 10W-4T-7L in all matches against Fort Lauderdale (formerly Miami FC). The series between the clubs has mostly been dominated by the home team, with the home side winning 14 out of the 21 matches.
