Silverbacks Top Georgia State, 2-0
Posted on Mon, Mar 11, 2013

In their second preseason game in three days, the Atlanta Silverbacks blanked Georgia State University, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Atlanta Silverbacks Park. The Silverbacks lineup once again featured exclusively trialists, as it provided head coach Brian Haynes with one last opportunity to evaluate the non-roster players in preseason camp.

Georgia State started the game well, creating a pair of close scoring opportunities, but falling short on the finishes. The two teams played three 30-minute periods, allowing each coaching staff the opportunity to try different lineups. The first two periods ended scoreless, but the Silverbacks took control in the final stanza, burying two goals and coming close to scoring another.

Since Saturday's game, Haynes has significantly trimmed down the amount of players in preseason camp, and will prepare his rostered players for their first preseason action this weekend. The Silverbacks will host UAB on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Atlanta Silverbacks Park. The two sides met in last year's preseason, with the Silverbacks taking the game, 2-0, thanks to a pair of goals from forward Matt Horth.

Admission to Saturday's game is free and the concession stand will be open.
