Silverbacks To Host SOGA Athletes
Posted on Mon, Mar 4, 2013

Every year, the Atlanta Silverbacks organization looks forward to working with Special Olympics Georgia and its outstanding athletes. To kick off the partnership in 2013, the Silverbacks will be hosting a clinic for the Special Olympics athletes on March 15 following the professional team’s training session at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.

The clinic on March 15 marks the third straight year the team has hosted a clinic for the athletes. The entire Silverbacks team and coaching staff will put the athletes through fun stations that focus on the fundamental soccer skills: dribbling, passing, and shooting.

Special Olympics Georgia will host their annual State Summer Games at Emory University from May 17-19. The Silverbacks have recently took part in the event’s Opening Ceremonies, and will continue to do that this year, with players being on hand to encourage and interact with the athletes who will be competing.

The athletes will arrive at Atlanta Silverbacks Park at 10:30 a.m. on March 15, and after taking in the final few minutes of the Silverbacks’ training session, they will take the field with the team to begin the clinic. The event will run until about 12:30 p.m., and the final 30 minutes will be dedicated to autographs, photos, and an appearance from the Silverbacks’ mascot, Socrates.
