Edmonton, Alberta (March 2, 2013) – With 16 players already on the roster, technical director Joe Petrone and head coach Colin Miller have signed five players to contracts, while releasing five others.

Third-year forward Michael Cox, along with fellow striker Elvir Gigolaj will rejoin the team. The Eddies also added defender Eddie Edward and midfielders Michael Nonni and Dillon Torindo after successful try-outs.

“The team is really starting to take shape,” Petrone said. “We’ve added skill, size, youth and experience and there are still some pieces yet to be added.”

The squad has changed drastically from last year and the club had to release a few veterans along with some trialists today.

Chris Kooy, who captained the team since 2010 and Kenny Caceros, who joined the team last year, were both released, along with trialists Kofi Gyawu, Martin Nunez and Michael Marousek.

“It’s easier to make cuts if the players aren’t good people but with these guys, that wasn’t the case,” Petrone said. “Chris and Kenny served the club extremely well and we wish them all the best in their careers.”

Pre-season continues at Commonwealth on Monday and the club will continue to evaluate the players, new and old, as it progresses.

Petrone said the team plans on carrying 25 players but could expand by one or two.
