The Atlanta Silverbacks’ “Decision 2012” campaign just got a little more interesting. The campaign, which is giving the community an opportunity to vote on the team’s name for the future, will now feature a third name on the ballot.
ATLANTA FC has been added to the ballot after receiving a significant amount of write-in votes throughout the first half of the campaign.
“From the beginning, we have been prepared to add an additional name if it got a significant amount of traction as a write-in vote,” said Silverbacks General Manager Andy Smith. “The fans have spoken with Atlanta FC, so in the spirit of the campaign, we feel that the name deserves to be on the ballot.”
The newly added name joins the team’s current name, the Silverbacks, and the name of the city’s first ever professional soccer team, the Atlanta Chiefs, on the ballot. The write-in option will also continue to be available for voters.
The campaign will run through U.S. Presidential Election Day on November 6, with the winning name set be announced at a team event the following week.
To vote, visit atlantasilverbacks.com/decision2012 or stay tuned to the Silverbacks’ Facebook (facebook.com/atlantasilverbacks) or Twitter (@ATLSilverbacks) pages to attend one of the many voting events around the community.
Each voter is automatically entered to win a trip for two to New York City to see the team play against the New York Cosmos in 2013.
