Posted on Tue, Sep 11, 2012

With Minnesota's win tonight over Puerto Rico, FC Edmonton has been eliminated from playoff contention. The "Eddies" stayed alive briefly thanks to a top shelf goal at the death Saturday night against Minnesota by Shaun Saiko. The 1-1 tie preserved Edmonton's slim playoff chances until Minnesota's resounding victory tonight.

Carolina was the league’s most in-form team previous to Saturday's 1-0 loss to San Antonio. Prior to that Carolina came off of a huge 3-1 victory against the Puerto Rico Islanders in their notoriously difficult Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel. The win saw the RailHawks move up to fourth in the table, level on points with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, with two games in hand. Following, Saturday's results the RailHawks have fallen one point behind Fort Lauderdale but have still have two games in hand. The fourth place team in the final NASL standings hosts a quarterfinal round match.

Edmonton plays its final three games of the 2012 campaign at home. Following tomorrow night's game, the "Eddies" will host Tampa Bay on Sunday and Fort Lauderdale the following week to close out the campaign.
