Match Preview: Edmonton vs. Atlanta
"Eddies" Host Silverbacks on Sunday
Posted on Sat, Sep 1, 2012

Two teams still fighting for a shot in the playoffs, FC Edmonton and the Atlanta Silverbacks face off in a high-stakes match at Clarke Stadium on Sunday afternoon in Edmonton, Alberta. The Silverbacks will be eliminated from the playoffs with a defeat to Edmonton and a Minnesota Stars FC victory against the San Antonio Scorpions.

The Eddies are entering the new month after a successful August. Edmonton went 1-3-1 during the month, getting results against San Antonio and Puerto Rico, and addressing their scoring woes with a goal in every game. Last weekend the Canadian side closed out the month with a 1-1 against Minnesota, on-loan midfielder Bryan Arguez scoring a long-distance equalizer.

For the Silverbacks, the match is do or die. Failure to win could mean missing out of the playoffs for the second straight season. Last weekend the Silverbacks were beaten 1-0 by the Carolina RailHawks; the Silverbacks kept scoreless for the third match in a row under new boss Brian Haynes.

Atlanta pulled off a surprise upset the last time visiting Edmonton. Ciaran O’Brien scored one and set up another to lead the Silverbacks to a first win of the season after starting the season with a 0-5-4 record.
