Preview of Fort Lauderdale Strikers vs. Carolina RailHawks

Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 @ 7:30 p.m. – Lockhart Stadium – Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

What’s at Stake:

The Strikers (7W-6T-8L) currently hold fifth place in the NASL standings with 27 points, the same point total as fourth-place Minnesota, which has the tiebreak advantage (goal differential).  The RailHawks (6-7-6) are just two points below the Strikers and would occupy the sixth and final playoff spot if the season ended today.

Matchup:

The Strikers have an impressive six wins at home this year with three draws and just one loss, which came May 19 against Minnesota. The Strikers have scored seven goals in their last two home matches, the most recent a 5-3 win against Atlanta on July 27. Seven games remain on the schedule for Fort Lauderdale, four of which are at home.

The Strikers have not lost against Carolina this year, winning once and drawing twice against the RailHawks. The Strikers beat Carolina 2-1 in their last matchup at Lockhart Stadium, June 30.

Strikers midfielder Mark Anderson looks to continue his torrid scoring run this season. Anderson notched another goal last week against Atlanta and has 11 scores in 2012, tied for second most in the NASL. Anderson trails only the 16 goals of San Antonio Scorpions’ Pablo Campos.

Carolina, coming off a 3-3 tie with the Tampa Bay Rowdies on August 4, is led by forward Nick Zimmerman. A former MLS starter with the New York Red Bulls, Zimmerman currently has 11 goals on the season and is tied with the Strikers’ Mark Anderson for second best in the NASL.

NEXT HOME GAME – World Record Night!

August 25 @ 7:30 p.m., Fort Lauderdale Strikers vs. San Antonio Scorpions

The Strikers and their fans will attempt to set a new world record for the most people wearing sunglasses in the dark. The team will distribute free Strikers sunglasses to fans in attendance while supplies last, and fans are encouraged to bring their own shades to help set a new record at Lockhart Stadium.
