FC Edmonton and San Antonio Tie 1-1
Game Completed After Three Hour Lightning Delay
Posted on Thu, Aug 9, 2012

EDMONTON, Alberta (August 8, 2012) -  The San Antonio Scorpions and FC Edmonton battled to a 1-1 draw at Clarke Stadium in a match slowed by a three-hour delay due to weather.

Jonathan Greenfield scored his third goal of the season to help the Scorpions (10W-6T-4L) earn a critical point on the road.

The Scorpions came out aggressive early, looking to set the tempo early in the match and create scoring opportunities against the Eddies (4W-6T-10L).

In the 11th minute, the Scorpions got their first solid scoring chance after Pablo Campos received the ball inside the box and sent a backwards pass to Josue Soto, who stood alone in front of Lance Parker. But before Soto could get a shot away, Parker dove in and knocked the ball off of Soto's feet.

The Scorpions broke through in the 23rd minute after Campos headed a pass to Jonathan Greenfield in open space. The Scorpions defender calmly put a shot past Parker to give the Scorpions a 1-0 lead.

Campos almost made it a two-goal advantage in the 27th minute after he chased down a loose ball and made a run down the right side of the box, but his shot went just wide of the far post.

Just minutes later, Hans Denissen made a pass to his left to Campos in the 31st minute to give the Brazilian forward another chance to score, but his shot on goal was blocked away by Parker.   FC Edmonton then began to putting pressure on the Scorpions backline, looking to tie the game before the half.

The Eddies did just that, when Yashir Pinto fired a shot past Sattler after receiving a pass from Barthelemy in the box in injury time to tie the game 1-1.

After a three-hour rain delay, the Scorpions and Eddies got the second half underway. After an initial push by FC Edmonton early, the Scorpions put some pressure with some opportunities.

A cross by Hans Denissen into the box led to a one-time shot from Ryan Cochrane that missed the net and then a shot by Campos that missed the far post in the 61st minute.

But things became difficult for the Scorpions when Josue Soto was shown two yellow cards in rapid succession in the 65th minute that put the Scorpions a man down for the remainder of the match.

The Eddies had a golden opportunity to take a lead in the 81st minute when Shaun Saiko, coming into the match as a substitution, immediately placed a hard shot from the top of the box on goal, forcing Sattler to make a diving stop. Pinto was there for the rebound, but missed the open net to keep the score tied.

Saiko sent in a dangerous cross in the 86th minute into the box for Pinto to create another scoring chance, but his sharp-angled shot went off the post and into the arms of Sattler again.
